Meet Roy: I was born in Los Angeles and raised in Long Beach where my parents had settled after emigrating from Canada shortly after the Great Depression—I know that’s close to pre-historic. I was the youngest of four children, two brothers and one sister. Shortly after arriving in southern California , my mother gave her life to Christ and my father followed later. They soon settled on a Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Long Beach where I was raised. My mother was one of the early teachers in the Child Evangelism Fellowship program for children. It was in one of those classes that I realized a need of a Savior and asked Jesus to come into my life. In the eighth grade I was enrolled in one of the early Christian schools called Brethren Schools. I held various student offices including student body president and earned letters in baseball and basketball. When it was time to choose a college, I ended up selecting a small, relatively young Christian liberal arts college named Westmont College located in the scenic hills of Montecito outside of Santa Barbara, CA. I was privileged to travel for two years representing the college singing in their male quartet. Other activities included serving as president of one of their literary societies and as student body president. My senior year was the highlight because I met my wife-to-be, Sandra Burns. We were married the following August and began our home in Santa Barbara where I served in Youth for Christ and as a youth pastor in a local church. God has allowed us to have a very wide variety of experiences in ministry, serving churches in California, Oregon, Washington, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Kentucky. In addition, I was sent by the Alliance to Saigon, Vietnam near the close of that war. We were evacuated from there in early April, 1975. I have continued to pursue academic advancement with a Doctor of Ministry and Doctor of Philosophy (religion and science) degrees. Our home is nearby in Bridlewood Canyon of El Dorado
Hills.
Roy's most profound Christian experience: When Jesus came into my life and when I invited the Holy Spirit to take full control, fill me with himself and live in and through me the life of Jesus.
