Dee Michel
Director of Children's Ministries

 

Meet Dee: I was born and raised in Phoenix Arizona. I met my husband, Dennis at St. Joseph's Hospital where I was working as a Respiratory Therapist and he was doing his residency. Married in 1979, moved to California in 1983 and became a full-time stay-at-home mom. Became a Christian in 1984 and began serving in Children's Ministry. Became involved in the initial start up of Church of the Foothills and continued to serve in Children's Ministry for the next 11 years. I was hired as part-time Director of Children's Ministry in April of 2001.

 

Dee's most profound Christian experience: Three years after I had become a Christian, I struggling with assurance of my salvation. Satan kept planting seeds of doubt and robbed me of my peace and joy. I was in bondage to works and felt I had to earn God's salvation but was always falling short. I was miserable and convinced I was going to hell no matter what. Then when reading 2 Corinthians 12, Jesus literally spoke to me through the only red lettered phrase written on that page. It was 2 Corinthian 12:9 where Jesus literally said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Finally, the light bulb in my pea brain went on and I finally understand what Grace was. Another verse that really helped me was Ephesians 2:8-9, "for it is by grace you have been saved through faith - and not by works, so that no one would boast."

I finally realized and understood that Jesus had already done everything necessary for me to not have to go to hell by dying on the cross for me. That being saved was a gift and not something that I need to earn or attain. It is a done deal! Yeah! The pressure is off, just rest in it. Grace, God's favor and forgiveness. My free ticket to heaven because of Jesus! What an amazing truth!
